As a teenager, I had never felt entirely satisfied with the movies Hollywood threw at me. Raunchy teen movies put girls in the back. Or on their knees. Romantic comedies loved telling me to stay home, eat ice cream, and wait until someone took me to prom. Teenage girls were supposed to be either sweet and self-sacrificing or sexy and mindless. So what was an angry, creative, morally ambiguous girl like me to do? Well, now I’m at USC film school. And I’m doing it myself.
